Built In Wardrobe:
It hides an HVAC unit and Heater
“Hide my appliances from sight, and make it pretty, please.”
That was the start of this project, my client has a large open space home office that currently doubles as living space during their renovations.
The HVAC unit and heater are both noisy pieces of machinery and do not fit inside a living space.
The plan here was to build a frame around them, which the client filled with wood insulation and then clad it with white melamine and the doors are made our of Afzelia Veneered Plywood.
The doors, which are also insulated from the inside, can each be lifted out in order to get access to the appliances when needed for maintenance etc.
The frame was built out of construction lumber, which could be transported up the stairs individually and installed on location.
The doors and shelves were made out of Afzelia Veneered Plywood
and edgebanded with similar Afzelia wood.
some loose testbuilding to test the spacing of each door
adjusted slightly when the doors are in.
On the other side of the workspace I built a bench/bookshelf, scroll down for more of that :)
The bench in front of the doors and some windowsills on the workbench, all made from the same plywood.
As i forgot to take progress pictures on site you will have to imagine the mess on the inside yourself. Up top you can see the wooden frame in place
installed
front view for scale
afterwards the client stained the wood to match the existing windows on site
and I added some shelving
Et voilà
detail of the doors
On the opposide side my bench went in over the existing heater and stained to match the windows.
some holes let the heat rise from the heater as wel as radiate its heat forward.
yours' truly installing the windowsils
the last pieces of afzelia were used to make 3 windowsills in the hallway
here's number two and three will remain a mystery ( but as you can guess it looks identical)
